Rik brings more than 30 years of experience in senior management roles to his role as Chair of Clariti’s advisory board and member of Clariti’s Board of Directors, including with banks, brokerage firms, and securities exchanges. 

From 2011–15, Rik was CEO of CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank, a full-service bank that operates in 18 countries, with US$12 billion in assets and market capitalization of more than US$2 billion. Rik was responsible for the development and execution of a multi-faceted plan that resulted in the turnaround of the bank’s operating and financial performance.

Rik joined CIBC in 2008 as Managing Director and Head of Cash Equities and Capital Markets Sales. During his time in this role, CIBC became recognized as the Canadian leader in equity trading and equity capital markets, and its equity market share tripled.

Prior to joining CIBC, Rik held several senior positions with the TMX Group, including Co-CEO and President, and spent 17 years at several investment firms, including Research Capital, BZW Canada, Deacon Morgan McEwen Easson, and Jones Heward.

Before transitioning to Clariti’s Advisory Board, Rik served as Managing Director and Head, Financial Services and Strategic Advisory with Clariti. Most recently, Rik held the role of Executive Chairman of Sagicor Bank Barbados, where he led the development and launch of the first fully digital bank in the Caribbean. Throughout his career, Rik has also served as a non-executive director on the boards of several notable organizations spanning financial services, clean energy, and social impact investing.
